KUDEB contributes to the preservation and presentation of the city’s cultural heritage through a whole of educational, scientific and cultural activities.
The lack of applying the right conservation and restoration methods, the insufficient maintenance-repair implementations and the difficulty of finding qualified people for the field work referred to the urgent necessity of 'a methodology' for restoration and conservation works, are “pending issues” in the city of Istanbul. Because of these mentioned issues, Timber Training Workshop was established KUDEB in order to make conservation and reproduction of historical timber architectural elements, train qualified young people who can continue this traditional craftsmanship and make the implementations on-site by the aim of encouraging people for the preservation of traditional wooden heritage. Timber Workshop started to show activity in 2008 along with the Project Group including architects and restorers. The general goal of the project was creating a ‘repeatable and sustainable model’ of training in parallel to a ‘methodical and multidisciplinary work’ as well as a technical conservation institute. KUDEB provides an integrated preservation area in order to ‘learn-practice-share’ and it is determined as raising the awareness about the cultural heritage protection.
